Scorpions at a glance
Expect a lifespan of roughly 5 to 8 years for a well-kept scorpion. Scorpions are insectivores, which shapes what you feed and how much. Most adults weigh around 1-200 g. They reach maturity at about 2 years old.
Scorpion venom potency varies enormously by species, so identify yours before handling anything. Most keepers choose the docile emperor scorpion, which needs deep damp substrate, high humidity and a secure hide.
The health problems vets see most often in scorpions include failed molt, dehydration, mycosis from over-damp conditions and injury from live prey.
