Land crabs at a glance
Expect a lifespan of roughly 5 to 10 years for a well-kept land crab. Land crabs are omnivores, which shapes what you feed and how much. Most adults weigh around 1-200 g. They reach maturity at about 2 years old.
Land crabs need both fresh and brackish water access plus deep damp substrate to burrow and molt in. They are territorial and will fight if kept too densely, so allow ample floor space per animal.
The health problems vets see most often in land crabs include failed molt, dehydration, limb loss from fighting and shell disease.
