Tetra care tools and calculators
There are 17 tools for tetras on XpertsPet, sorted into 10 topics such as age, behavior, breeding, cost, environment and health. The cards above take you straight to each group. Below is a short guide to what they cover and which ones are most useful at different points in your tetra's life.
Tetras at a glance
Expect a lifespan of roughly 3 to 6 years for a well-kept tetra. Tetras are omnivores, which shapes what you feed and how much. They mature quickly, at around 6 months.
Tetras are schooling fish that become stressed and nippy in small numbers, so keep at least six of one species. They prefer soft, slightly acidic water with planted cover and subdued lighting.
The health problems vets see most often in tetras include neon tetra disease, ich, fin rot and stress from being under-schooled.
