Praying mantises at a glance
With good care, praying mantises typically live 1-2 years. Praying mantises are insectivores, which shapes what you feed and how much. Most adults weigh around 1-200 g. They mature quickly, at around 6 months.
Mantises need an enclosure at least three times their body length in height so they can hang upside down to molt. A fall during molting is the single most common cause of death in captivity.
The health problems vets see most often in praying mantises include failed molt from insufficient height or humidity, dehydration, injury from live prey and fungal infection.
