Pigeon care tools and calculators
There are 24 tools for pigeons on XpertsPet, sorted into 13 topics such as age, behavior, breeding, cost, environment and grooming. The cards above take you straight to each group. Below is a short guide to what they cover and which ones are most useful at different points in your pigeon's life.
Pigeons at a glance
A healthy pigeon usually lives 10 to 15 years, so the care decisions you make now play out over a long time. Pigeons are granivores, which shapes what you feed and how much. Most adults weigh around 300-500 g. They mature quickly, at around 6 months.
Pigeons are intelligent, calm and unusually trainable. Kept indoors they need pigeon pants or a dedicated room; kept outdoors they need a predator-proof loft with perches sized so the bird's chest rests on the ledge.
The health problems vets see most often in pigeons include canker (trichomoniasis), paramyxovirus, coccidiosis and external parasites.
Eggs usually take 17 to 19 days to hatch.
