Pig care tools and calculators
There are 17 tools for pigs on XpertsPet, sorted into 11 topics such as age, behavior, breeding, cost, grooming and health. The cards above take you straight to each group. Below is a short guide to what they cover and which ones are most useful at different points in your pig's life.
Pigs at a glance
A healthy pig usually lives 12 to 18 years, so the care decisions you make now play out over a long time. Pigs are herbivores, which shapes what you feed and how much. Most adults weigh around 80-300 kg. They mature quickly, at around 9 months.
Pigs are highly intelligent and need rooting space, a wallow or shade to manage heat since they cannot sweat, and very strong fencing. They grow far larger than most first-time owners expect.
The health problems vets see most often in pigs include sunburn and heat stress, obesity and joint strain, mange and internal parasites.
Gestation in pigs runs about 112 to 115 days.
