Geckos at a glance
Expect a lifespan of roughly 10 to 20 years for a well-kept gecko. Geckos are insectivores, which shapes what you feed and how much. Most adults weigh around 30-120 g. They reach maturity at about 1 year old.
Gecko care varies hugely by species: terrestrial species need floor space and belly heat, arboreal species need height and humidity. Confirm which species you have before setting temperatures, since requirements differ sharply.
The health problems vets see most often in geckos include metabolic bone disease, retained shed around toes and eyes, impaction and respiratory infection.
Eggs usually take 45 to 75 days to hatch.
