Finch care tools and calculators
There are 24 tools for finches on XpertsPet, sorted into 13 topics such as age, behavior, breeding, cost, environment and grooming. The cards above take you straight to each group. Below is a short guide to what they cover and which ones are most useful at different points in your finch's life.
Finches at a glance
Expect a lifespan of roughly 5 to 10 years for a well-kept finch. Finches are granivores, which shapes what you feed and how much. Most adults weigh around 10-30 g. They mature quickly, at around 6 months.
Finches are flock birds kept for watching, not handling. They need a long horizontal flight cage and should be kept in groups of at least two. They are active all day and do not tolerate being alone.
The health problems vets see most often in finches include air sac mites, egg binding in hens, scaly face and overgrown claws.
Eggs usually take 12 to 16 days to hatch.
