What is the Emu Growth Chart Tracker?
The Emu Growth Chart Tracker plots weight over time against breed growth curves for young emus. Weight is one of the earliest and easiest signals of a health problem, both gradual weight gain and unexpected weight loss are worth catching early.
A well-cared-for emu usually lives somewhere between 10 and 20 years. Diet-wise they are an omnivore, which shapes almost every feeding decision you make. Emus are large ratites requiring acres of secure paddock with fencing at least 1.8m high. They can deliver a dangerous forward kick, are legally restricted in many areas, and are a livestock-scale commitment. Keep an eye out for leg and hock injuries, impaction from swallowing foreign objects, parasites. These are the conditions emus are most commonly seen for.

How does the Emu Growth Chart Tracker work?
The healthy range is drawn from breed or size-variant references for emus, adjusted for age where growth is still underway. Use it to know roughly where you stand and what to ask about, not to rule anything in or out on its own.
What affects the result
- Breed or size variant: which sets a very different healthy range than a flat species-wide number would
- Age: growing juveniles are compared against a growth curve rather than an adult target
- Body condition: since two animals at the same weight can have very different amounts of muscle versus fat
- Spay/neuter status and activity level, both of which shift metabolic needs
How do you use the Emu Growth Chart Tracker?
- Enter the current weight in whichever unit you use (lb, oz, kg)
- Pick your build for the species (Small or fine-boned, Average, Large or heavy-boned)
- Pick your life stage (Growing, Adult, Senior)
- Enter the age
- Press Calculate, then read the result alongside the sources listed below
If the result looks wrong, check your inputs before you worry. Entering weight in the wrong unit is easily the most common reason a figure looks off.

Before you rely on this
This calculation assumes a healthy adult emu with no complicating conditions. Pregnancy, recovery from illness, medication and significant age at either end of the scale all change what is appropriate. When in doubt, the safest move is to take the number to a vet and ask whether it fits your particular animal.
