Dog pregnancy lasts approximately 63 days from mating. Here is what to expect each week.
Weeks 1-2
No visible signs. Fertilised eggs travel through the fallopian tubes and implant in the uterus around day 16-20.
Weeks 3-4
Ultrasound can confirm pregnancy at day 25. You may notice mild morning sickness and slight nipple enlargement. Keep diet normal.
Weeks 5-6
The abdomen enlarges noticeably. Gradually increase food by 25-50% and consider switching to a puppy formula food.
Weeks 7-8
Puppies can be felt moving. Your dog may begin nesting. Introduce the whelping box now so she becomes comfortable with it.
Week 9: Whelping
Temperature drops below 37.8°C approximately 12-24 hours before labour. Active labour produces a puppy every 30-60 minutes.
